About The Award
The Outstanding Student Award recognizes exceptional undergraduate chemistry students at colleges and universities within the Columbus Section geographic area.
Each participating college or university selects an outstanding senior and junior chemistry student according to criteria established by its chemistry department. The Columbus Section recognizes the selected students with a certificate and monetary award.
Award Criteria
Eligible students:
- Junior or senior chemistry students
- Enrolled at a college or university within the Columbus Section geographic area
- Selected by their institution’s chemistry department
Each department determines its own criteria for identifying outstanding students.
History
The Columbus Section works directly with colleges and universities throughout the section to recognize outstanding chemistry students each year. Schools are typically contacted in March, and each institution manages its own selection process.
Each participating college or university selects an outstanding senior and junior, with awards presented near the end of the academic year.

Award Amounts
- Outstanding Senior: $500 and a certificate
- Outstanding Junior: $300 and a certificate
Awards are typically presented in April at the end of the school year.
Selection Process
Each college or university handles its own nomination and selection process. The institution submits the names of its selected students to the Columbus Section for recognition.
